What happens in clinic?
Many people are very anxious about visiting a sexual health clinic. This is particularly true of the FIRST ever visit.
Our staff are very understanding and will try to make your visit as stress free as possible. The clinic team consists of gay-friendly staff.
On arrival you will need to register at the reception. We will ask for details such as you name, date of birth and address. Everything is treated in the strictest confidence.
The waiting room is comfortable and contains a variety of sexual health information.
During the visit you will be asked about any problems you may have. You will also be asked questions about recent sex. Do not feel embarassed. The Doctor/Nurse needs to know some information in order to make sure you get the correct tests or information.
We offer all patients a full screen (relevent to the sex you have had). This usually consists of examination, swabs/urine tests and blood tests. We also offer vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B.
For a full check up allow 90 minutes for your visit (usually in GUYS clinic it's actually quicker than this). Everything will be explained during your visit.
Don't be anxious, 100% of patients in our 2007 survey would recommend the clinic.
